Burt Award for First Nations, Inuit and Métis Literature

Burt Award FNIM Literature badgeFor Educators

Thanks to our partnerships with national and community organizations, educators, librarians, and frontline workers in thousands of schools, libraries, community centres and Friendships Centres across Canada will receive each year sets of three novels for Young Adults written by First Nations, Inuit and Métis authors to use as part of their programs supporting Aboriginal youth.

This is a result of the readership initiative's guaranteed purchase and book distribution program, which ensures that, in addition to recognizing excellent Young Adult literature by First Nations, Inuit and Métis authors, the Award puts books in the hands of the young readers who need it the most.

Our hope is that by making these award-wining books available to First Nations, Inuit and Métis Youth across the country, together we can spread the joy of reading.

If you're an educator, librarian or community leader working with Aboriginal youth and would like to receive copies of the winning titles to use in your programs, contact the Burt Award for First Nations, Inuit and Métis Literature Program Manager, Hadley Dyer: hdyer@codecan.org.

Post on our Facebook page or Tweet and let us know how you used the books to foster a love of reading with the youth you work with.
